The early original Doctor Strange issues can be hard to find, and also can be quite expensive to obtain. Fortunately, many Dr. Strange stories have been reprinted over the years in a variety of formats and editions. For your back-issue treasure hunts, here is a listing of which Dr. Strange issues have been reprinted, and where you can find them. May the Eye of Agamotto light thy way to these treasures!

Marvel Masterworks #23
Reprints of: Strange Tales #110-111, 114-141
This beautiful and difficult to find hardcover volume is the definitive Dr. Strange reprint collection. This volume contains an almost complete run of Steve Ditko Dr. Strange stories, from Strange's first appearance in Strange Tales #110 through Strange Tales #141. (Ditko's last issue was #146.). Reprinted on glossy paper with vibrant colors, this volume originally cost $39.95, and you can expect to pay a bit more to acquire this today. However, purchasing the individual Strange Tales original issues in good condition will cost you lots more than this volume, and the quality of the paper and color with this collection can't be beat.

Essential Dr. Strange (vol. 1)
Reprints of: Strange Tales #110-111, 114-168
This reprint collection was released by Marvel in Dec. 2001. It contains black and white versions of the complete classic Dr. Strange series from Strange Tales, including all of the Steve Ditko/Stan Lee stories, as well as all of the covers to these issues. The black and white artwork reveals subtle details that the color comics sometimes overwhelm. This is the truly the essential reference collection for fans of the classic Dr. Strange tales!

Dr. Strange (Fireside Book)
Reprints of: Strange Tales #111, 116, 119-120, 123, 131-133, Spider-Man Annual #2, Marvel Premiere #3
This reprint collection was released by Simon and Schuster in 1979 in both a hardcover and a softcover volume. It contains a good selection of the classic Ditko Strange Tales, a rare Strange story from Amazing Spider-Man Annual #2, and the first Barry Smith Strange story. Stan Lee provides intros to the stories in his typical hip and hyped style. Cover art is by Bob Larkin.

Marvel Treasury Edition #6
Reprints of: Strange Tales #146, 148, Dr. Strange 170, 177, Marvel Premiere #10
This is a oversized book (10 x 13-1/4 inches) from 1975, with a nice selection of Strange stories from over the years, featuring artwork from Ditko, Everett, Severin, Adkins, Colan, and Brunner. There is also a nice double-page Frank Brunner illustration at the center of the book. The Marvel Treasury Editions can frequently can be found on the on-line auction sites, such as eBay.

Pocket Books #1 & 2
Reprints of: Strange Tales #110-111 & 114-129 (PB #1), 130-144 (PB #2)
These paperback sized books (published by Pocket Books in 1978-79) reprint the first 33 Dr. Strange stories from Strange Tales. This is a great economical way to get the classic Lee/Ditko stories, and the small size format (4" x 7") is very legible. There are also some bonus pinup pages by Ditko, Adkins, Brunner, and Nebres.

Marvel Milestone Edition: Strange Tales
Reprints of: Strange Tales #110, 111, 114, 115
This recent reprint (April 1995) presents the first four Dr. Strange stories on very nice coated stock, including the original ads (which themselves are a bit strange). A great bargain collection of Strange classics!

Doctor Strange/Silver Dagger
Reprints of: Doctor Strange #1,2,4,5 (second series)
Featuring a wrap-around Berni Wrightson cover, this book reprints the first confrontation between Doctor Strange and Silver Dagger (from June-Oct 1974). This classic story was created by the sensational team of Steve Engelhart (writer) and Frank Brunner (artist).

Dr. Strange: A Separate Reality
Reprints of: Marvel Premiere #9-10, 12-14 and Dr. Strange (VOL. 2) #1-2 and 4-5
This reprint collection was released by Marvel in Feb. 2002. It contains the inspired collaborations of Steve Englehart and Frank Brunner. This collection features the pivotal storylines of the cosmic evil of Shuma-Gorath and the death of the Ancient One, the confrontation with Sise-Neg/Genesis/God, and the threat of Silver Dagger and the inward journey into a bizarre Wonderland-like dimension where Dr. Strange embraces death!
